A Simple Gathering...
Resurrection Church is a church plant that began gathering in September of 2024. The weekly gathering meets Sunday Nights @ 5:00 pm in the Anthony Wayne First Church of God building.
It is the aim of this community of believers to live as A Simple Gathering of Reproducing Disciples. Simplicity, a high view of Gathering, a mind for Reproducing Jesus followers, and a heart for Discipleship are the marks that the Resurrection community strives for as we meet and live in fellowship together.
Simple
Simplicity is a focus on what is most essential and necessary. In a culture that is increasingly tripped up by a myriad of voices and stimuli that push us toward confusion, we believe the church should lead in simplicity. In both our weekly gathering, and the way that our community functions, we want to emphasize the things that matter most: communion, study of the Word of God, prayer, and the fellowship of believers.
Gathering
The incarnate savior, Emmanuel (God with us), came down and “made his dwelling among us” (John 1:14). Jesus saw the necessity of being with his people as he was working to save his people. As we live in the reality of Christ’s resurrection, we want to be a community committed to dwelling among each other. If Jesus saw it necessary to be present, we want to be as well. Through our weekly gathering and lifestyles of hospitable fellowship we will pursue Christlike presence and avoid “neglecting to gather together, as some are in the habit of doing…” (Hebrews 10:25).
Reproducing
The Church is a reproducing organism. Jesus told Peter in Matthew 16:18, “ I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.” This prophetic message of Jesus is coming to fruition because of disciples and congregations who replicate themselves.
Resurrection Church aims to join in the reproducing nature of the church. As our community grows, we have a plan to bring on a resident pastor once consistent attendance reaches 250. This pastor will spend one year preparing to launch a sister church out of the Resurrection community. This will help keep churches small and focused on ministering to particular geographic regions in Fort Wayne.
Disciples
Everything hinges on discipleship. The gathering is made up of disciples. The great commission is carried out by them. Unfortunately, forming disciples is often lost in the shuffle of the modern church’s activity. Our simple approach gives us space to focus on the most essential thing: helping people make Jesus their teacher.
